C-PTSD (Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) is a psychological condition that develops due to prolonged or repeated trauma, typically occurring in situations where escape is difficult or impossible, such as childhood abuse, domestic violence, captivity, or long-term emotional neglect.
You may have CPTSD if you:
Have difficulty regulating your emotions
Have deep feelings of shame, guilt or worthlessness
Have difficulty with relationships, trusting others or patterns of challenging relationships
Constant feels of being on edge or looking for danger in safe situations
How We Work with CPTSD:
We begin with understanding safety and addressing safety in the present; discerning the difference between being unsafe, feeling unsafe, and feeling uncomfortable. Once we establish safety we then look down the pathways that lead to the traumas and work through them from a somatic, IFS, or EMDR lens.
